MY PRIORITIES

Student-Focused Leadership

Every decision made by the Board of Education should start with one simple question: What is best for students?

That means prioritizing academic growth, safe and well-managed learning environments, and meaningful student voice — while keeping the focus on education rather than political noise.

Students learn best in schools where expectations are clear, classrooms are supportive, and educators have the resources they need to help every child succeed.

Academic Excellence

Strong curriculum, responsible program evaluation, and measurable outcomes must guide our work. Families deserve clear communication about how our schools are performing and how decisions are made.

Educational expertise and meaningful data should guide policy decisions so that students graduate prepared for college, careers, and civic life.

Strong foundational skills in reading and mathematics must remain a core focus of our schools. Research consistently shows that strategically reducing class sizes in the early grades can improve reading and math achievement when implemented thoughtfully and evaluated transparently.

Our responsibility is to ensure that policies and programs are aligned with the goal of helping every student reach their full potential.

Empowering Parents & Supporting Educators

Parents deserve clarity about how the school system works and confidence that their voices are heard. Families should feel informed, respected, and able to partner with their schools.

At the same time, teachers and school staff are the foundation of student success. They deserve professional respect, strong leadership, and meaningful input in decisions that affect their classrooms.

When families, educators, and school leaders work together, students benefit from stronger relationships and more effective learning environments.

Responsible & Transparent Stewardship

The Board of Education has a responsibility to advocate honestly for the resources our schools need while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively.

Before launching new initiatives, we should ask:

• What problem are we solving?
• How will we measure success?
• Is this the best use of limited resources?

Clear goals, measurable outcomes, and transparent communication help build trust with the community and ensure that resources are used where they will have the greatest impact on students.

How I Will Serve on the Board

Serving on the Board of Education requires thoughtful leadership, careful oversight, and a commitment to the students, families, and educators our schools serve. If elected, I will approach this role guided by several core principles.

Student-Focused Decisions
Every decision should begin with one simple question: What is best for students?

Respect for Educators and Staff
Teachers, support staff, and school leaders bring valuable experience and expertise to our schools. Their perspectives should inform thoughtful decision-making.

Transparency and Accountability
Families and taxpayers deserve clear information about how decisions are made and how resources are used. Open communication helps build trust in our schools.

Responsible Stewardship of Resources
School boards oversee significant public resources. Careful budgeting and thoughtful investment help ensure those resources support classrooms and student success.

Collaboration Over Conflict
Strong schools are built through respectful dialogue and collaboration among families, educators, and the broader community.

What These Policies Mean for Harford County Families

Smaller Class Sizes and Student Support

Policies related to school funding and staffing directly affect class sizes. Smaller class sizes allow teachers to provide more individualized attention and help students build strong foundations in reading and math.

Recruiting and Retaining Strong Teachers

Policies that support competitive compensation, professional development, and positive working environments help attract and retain high-quality educators. Stable teaching staff benefits students and strengthens school communities.

Safe and Supportive Schools

Board policies guide how schools address student safety, school climate, and behavioral supports. Safe and welcoming learning environments allow students to focus on learning and growth.

Access to High-Quality Learning Resources

Policies governing curriculum materials and school libraries ensure students have access to resources that support research skills, critical thinking, and academic success.

Preparing Students for the Future

State initiatives such as the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future aim to strengthen early childhood education, career pathways, and college readiness programs so that graduates are prepared for a wide range of opportunities after high school.

If you believe our schools deserve steady, student-focused leadership, I would be honored to earn your vote.
